From Mars to the Industry: IN-TIME project

SENSIA will play a main role in the technological transfer to the industry of the space instruments to be designed in the Martian exploration mission IN-TIME.

Within the European H2020 framework, IN-TIME project addresses the technological and economic viability of a leading-edge instrument for dating of Mars’ sub-surface samples: a miniaturized, portable instrument for in-situ examination and assessment based on the luminescence method.

The main goal is to understand Mars surface dynamics and geological processes. Furthermore, knowledge about occurrences and time frequencies of such processes allow the hazard evaluation for locations, which is essential for future deployments, missions and eventually humans on Mars.

IN-TIME project addresses the technological and economic viability of a leading-edge instrument for dating of Mars’ sub-surface samples. This innovative technology is expected to have diverse applications on Earth; this lightweight and analysis instrument has a place in geology and archaeology, in addition to risk assessment tool for accidents.

SENSIA will play a leading role in the Electrical & Optical design & prototyping of the instrument, focusing on the requirements to use it on Earth.

The international consortium is conformed up by 8 members, including universities, research centers and technology companies.
